The project Turning Torso started out as a sculpture, shaped by inspiration from the human form into a turning movement. This sculpture has now evolved to this exciting house, soon to be built in Malm, signed Santiago Calatrava. His design for the 'Turning Torso' is inspired by the human form in motion. Working from offices located in Zurich, Paris and Valencia, Dr. Calatrava has designed bridges, opera houses, science pavilions, galleries and numerous works of modern art. In his more than 20 years of practice, he won countless awards. Among the honours and awards given to Santiago Calatrava are the Gold Metal of the Institute of Structural Engineers, London Honorary Fellowship in the Royal Institute of British Architects honorary membership in the Union of German Architects membership in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Valencia the City of Toronto Urban Design Award designation as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in Davos the Creu Sant Jordi, Barcelona the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, Ministry of Culture, Granada membership in Les Arts et Lettres, Paris and the Algur H. Meadows Award for Excellence in the Arts (Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University) and the Principe de Asturias Prize in Spain. He has received 11 doctoral honours throughout his career. Dr. Santiago Calatrava's artistic intuition, architectural vision and the pragmatism of his engineering expertise have made him one of the world's most outstanding design architects.
