... be eaten by a whale. Eventually God forgives Jonah and lets him live. The most thought-provoking book is the book of Ecclesiastes. It is answering the question of life being worthwhile. According to the book of Ecclesiastes, the good man may fare the same or even worse than a wicked man. It tells of two lessons, life is never fair and death comes to all. Being good or wicked has no affect on good fortune. The "better" man may come out below. The most important lesson that can be learned from Ecclesiastes is that death comes to all. When people die, they will be forgotten and all their tasks will be forgotten. However, God will judge you on how you lived your life, so even though if other people forget your deeds, God will not. Most all aspects of The Bible can be applied to real life. Although applied literally it may teach you nothing more than being swallowed by a whale, applied metaphorically The Bible comes to life. Everything can be applied to our actions and deeds. The Bible differs from other documents in the fact that it is a guideline to life. No other document except for maybe the Koran and the Torah can come close to matching this fact. The Bible is also very interesting because it is a Western text. Siddhartha however is based on an Eastern text. These differences between Western and Eastern religion can be spotted quite easily. Firstly, The Bible focuses on devotion to God as a spiritual being while Eastern religions (such as Buddhism which is the subject of Siddhartha) devotion is focused on oneself. These differences are subtle influences on the difference of Western and Eastern psychology. However, that is a different topic so focus will not be put on that.
