... the world.Asbestos Health Effects. ATSDR.cdc.gov .Agency for Toxic substances Disease Registry, 1 Apr. 2008. Web. 14 Sept. 2013 This source not only provides the reader with one health effect of asbestos but four asbestos-related conditions. The first condition listed in the source is Asbestosis which is a long term disease of the lungs, however it is not a cancer. The cause of this condition is inhalation of asbestos fibers which irritate and inflame the lung tissues which then causes them to scar. The scarring causes difficulty breathing and can potentially become fatal. The second condition listed is pleural abnormalities which affects the lining of the chest cavity. The abnormalities can include plaque buildup in the pleural and pleural mesothelioma. Next, is a rare cancer called mesothelioma which affects the lining of the chest cavity, somewhat similar to pleural abnormalities. Lastly lung cancer is a malignant tumor which blocks the lungs airway passages. Many symptoms of lung cancer are shortness of breath, chest pain, and unexplained weight loss. A person suffering with the symptoms listed above, might benefit from this source to help them better understand what condition they might have if they were exposed to asbestos at some point in their lifetime. In comparison to the other four sources, this source covers the topic of mesothelioma. However, this source doesnt really delve into the topic of mesothelioma instead, it briefly explains it and explains three other conditions related to asbestos. Obviously, this source surely differs from the others, because it includes the other medical effects of asbestos and doesnt solely focus on just mesothelioma. Readers may benefit from this source more than the others because this source covers all the bases of the health effects of asbestos and doesnt just focus on one condition.
